Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • All scientific texts must be submitted through the Electronic System for Journal Editing (SEER) / Open Journal Systems (OJS).
  • Submitted manuscripts must be original and unpublished, and must fall within the scope of the journal. Work that has been presented or published in conference proceedings, institutional repositories, or authors' personal websites are accepted.
  • Manuscripts must be original and not under consideration by another journal, regardless of language.
  • Manuscripts must be anonymized. This includes removing all identifying information regarding the authors and their institutions from the manuscript and references.
  • Manuscripts must be structured according to the formatting guidelines presented in the " Manuscript Submission Format" section.
  • Author information must be submitted in a separate file, uploaded as a supplementary document, as instructed in the " Manuscript Submission Format" section.
  • In the case of co-authored scientific texts, the contribution of each author should be identified in accordance with CRediT - Contributor Roles Taxonomy: Conceptualization; Data curation; Formal analysis; Funding acquisition; Investigation; Methodology; Project administration; Resources; Software; Supervision; Validation; Visualization; Writing – original draft; Writing – review & editing. Texts signed by more than 3 authors will not be allowed.
  • Texts may be written in Portuguese, Spanish or English.
  • •If translation services are required, the direct costs will be charged to the authors of the approved manuscripts. These services are provided by professionals accredited by the RBEUR Editorial Board in accordance with fees previously agreed upon with the journal.
  • The content of the manuscript is the sole responsibility of the authors, who must, however, inform the editors of any potential conflicts of interest - personal, commercial, political, academic, or financial - that may have influenced the submitted material, and must clarify how such conflicts have been resolved. In addition, authors must explicitly state in the manuscript any financial support received, including any economic or personal connections that enabled the work to be completed.

  • In accordance with ethical standards and best practices in research communication, RBEUR informs authors that the use of Artificial Intelligence in the preparation of manuscripts submitted to the journal is permitted only for the following activities:
    a) Search, systematization, and final organization of references;
    b) Organization of databases and the creation of tables, charts, and graphs;
    c) Final review of the text to improve grammar and spelling, in accordance with standard language conventions.

  • Articles must cite and reference the data, codes, and other materials used or generated by the research, which must be made available in open access before submission, as a condition for approval. In cases of secrecy or confidentiality, the justification must be recorded in "Comments to the editor," with the final decision resting with the Editorial Board.

Manuscript Submission Format

1) Manuscripts submitted to the "Articles" section must have between 40,000 and 50,000 characters, including spaces. This includes the title, abstract, tables, graphs, figures, references, and footnotes. Up to 10 visual elements may be included in each article.

2) Texts submitted to the “Review” section must have a maximum of 18,000 characters, including spaces. This includes titles and references, when necessary.

3) Manuscripts must be submitted in doc. or docx. format to facilitate the deletion of personal information recorded in the metadata that could compromise the blind review process. Use Arial font size 11; 1.5 cm spacing; and 2.5 cm side, top, and bottom margins.

4) The title and subtitles must be numbered and ordered in the following manner:
 Title: Arial, font size 14, normal, bold; Subtitle 1: Arial, font size 12, normal, bold; 1.1. Subtitle 2: Arial, font size 11, italic, bold; 1.1.1. Subtitle 3: Arial, font size 11, underlined.

5) All articles must include abstracts in both Portuguese (“resumo”) and English, containing between 100 and 150 words, along with between 5 and 7 keywords (“palavras-chave”). At least three of these keywords must be selected from a predefined list provided by RBEUR, available at https://drive.google.com/open?id=1YKlzR593Xo8vDfYv9_l3_dHh1SlHZ-eo&usp=drive_fs.

As a journal dedicated to urban and regional studies, it is recommended that, whenever applicable, the final keyword proposed by the authors specify the article's study area (e.g., city, region, or country).

6) Tables and graphs, in addition to being inserted in the text, must be submitted in .XLSX or .XLS (Excel) format, in a separate file.

7) Figures, in addition to being inserted in the text, must be submitted separately with good resolution.

8) Footnotes should only be used for supplementary and substantive information. Use Arial, font size 9, single spacing.

Digital Assets

Visual elements should follow the following pattern:

Tables and graphs: the title should be clearly referenced throughout the text of the article and tables and graphs must be sent in separate files in .XLSX or .XLS (Excel) format. Each file should be identified with the respective name of the table or graph that appears in the article. Charts may be produced in color and tables should not contain merged cells.

Images, figures and photographs: the title should be clearly referenced throughout the text of the article and the images, figures and photographs should be sent in separate files, using the same name that appears in the article, with black and white indications, high contrast, a minimum resolution of 300 DPI, a minimum width of 1,200 pixels, in JPG, TIFF or PNG format. When using images from third parties or images captured on the internet, the corresponding authorizations must be presented.

Citations and References

All bibliographic references should adhere to the standards established by the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT), placed at the end of the text, in alphabetical order, according to the examples below:

* When citing a work with three or fewer authors, list all of the authors' names in the same order as they appear in the source. If there are more than three authors, either the coordinators, organizers or editors of the work should be cited (for example: LEME, M. C. (Coord.). O urbanismo no Brasil: 1895-1965. São Paulo: Studio Nobel; FAUUSP; FUPAM, 1999); or “et al.” should be used (for example, LEME, M. C. et al. O urbanismo no Brasil: 1895-1965. São Paulo: Studio Nobel; FAUUSP; FUPAM, 1999).

Citations included throughout the text should follow the form (Author, date) or (Author, date, page), e.g.: (Leme, 1999) and (Santos, 1996, p. 217). If there is more than one title by the same author published in the same year, they must be differentiated by including a letter after the date, e.g.: (Santos, 1996a); (Santos, 1996b), etc.

When there is no information available regarding references, use “s.n.”, “s.l.” and “s.d.” for, respectively, sine nomine (without name), sine loco (without place) and sine data (without date).

The works cited in the footnotes will not be marked as references by Scielo, and must be used in a specific manner (e.g., indicating additional reading). Works cited exclusively from the notes must be referred to in full in the note itself and excluded from the list of bibliographic references located at the end of the text.

If the reference is identified with the elocation-id, this should be informed in the citation. For example: SILVA, J. História das Religiões Afro-Brasileiras. Revista de História da UEG, v. 08, n. 01, e201901, 2019.

Reviews

The “Reviews” section publishes reviews that deal with books, published over the last three years, related to the field of Planning and Urban and Regional Studies. Reviews will be assessed by the RBEUR Editorial Board.

Articles

The “Articles” section publishes original and unpublished manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of theoretical and/or empirical knowledge in the areas of interest of RBEUR. The manuscripts sent to the Journal, once approved by the editorial team, will be submitted to an unidentified assessment by at least two reviewers with expertise in the field of study related to the content of the work (blind and peer review).
