The objective of this article is to understand the politics of the urban as an analytical framework for studies and research on urban policies in Brazil, seeking to systematically interpret the theoretical and conceptual scheme used by the political scientist Eduardo Marques to develop his approach. Marques’ publications from the 1990s onwards were subjected to survey and analysis, with works related to the State, urban politics, and local politics being prioritized. Of great interpretative complexity, the consolidation of the politics of the urban as an effective framework for analysis and research focused on social and urban studies largely depends on its dissemination in the multidisciplinary field in which it is inserted.
