Abstract

This article advances a reflection on the interplay between language, aesthetics, and the urban space, drawing upon Ludwig Wittgenstein’s later philosophy—particularly his notion of “aspect-seeing”—in dialogue with Hannah Arendt’s conception of plurality. It contends that aesthetic perspectivism may provide an alternative to technocratic approaches to the urban, suggesting that the city, when understood as a mediator of language, requires from its subjects an active disposition toward recognizing plurality as a political as well as aesthetic foundation. In this sense, the city is conceived as a collective work and as a space of appearance, grounded in the Wittgensteinian notions of language games and forms of life.
